Coaching Through Covid-19

How COVID-19 Hit Americans

COVID-19 hit Americans hard in late February 2020 as the spread of this airborne virus developed across the world. The Nation stood still as corporations, restaurants, churches, and schools closed their doors to prevent the spread of COVID-19. City and state officials forced many Americans to stay home and practice social distancing. Crowds stood in lines for toilet tissue, cleaning supplies, and water as the COVID-19 pandemic continued to rise with no end in sight. The unemployment rate rose along with COVID cases throughout 2020. Most people in the workforce transitioned to working from home while many other Americans, such as servers and hospitality workers, became unemployed. Small businesses had to close and were most affected by the constraints of COVID because, unlike large corporations, they relied on their monthly income to pay their employees. Many people lost their jobs and as a result, it caused a significant increase in unemployment cases and a decrease in the economy. This global pandemic caused concerts, vacations, cruises, and professional sports to cancel for 2020, and the entertainment outlet that many Americans relied on came to a brisk halt. Americans could no longer communicate with their family, friends, co-workers, and church members in person causing a social dissonance because of COVID-19.

Coping with Covid-19

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) can be contracted through the nose, mouth and eyes causing symptoms of fever, heavy breathing, body aches and sore throat. Florida has over 2.2M confirmed cases of COVID and 35K deaths with numbers growing daily. The CDC has reported that the maximum time for someone to recover from COVID-19 is approximately 2 weeks. The severity of COVID-19 symptoms varies per person and may be severe if the person has pre-existing conditions. As medical professionals continue to gain knowledge on how COVID-19 affects their patients, they realized that the symptoms of COVID-19 can outlive the virus months and possibly years after the virus was contracted. However, the psychological symptoms, if not treated, could last a lifetime. Individuals may suffer from physiological effects of COVID-19 without contracting the virus. The abrupt life changes caused by COVID-19 put a physical, spiritual, and emotional strain on Americans. Research has shown that the high unemployment rate and social distancing constraints caused many Americans to suffer from anxiety, depression, substance abuse and a lack of self-worth. So here is the good news. Vaccination sites across the nation are readily available to prevent the spread of COVID-19. You can visit VACCINES.GOV to find a vaccination center near you. It is recommended that you get tested for COVID and seek a medical professional if you are experiencing symptoms. You can find a COVID testing site near you by visiting HHS.GOV.
